WHAT TO EXPECT

As a teaching clinic, you can expect to have a different experience than when visiting a private practice dentist or community dental clinic.

SCREENING VISIT FOLLOWED BY COMPREHENSIVE EXAM

Before your treatment begins, new patients will have a screening visit in the Patient Admitting and Emergency Services Clinic for initial evaluation and dental x-rays. A subsequent visit will then be scheduled by your dental student to do a required comprehensive examination of your mouth, teeth, and gums before your treatment begins.

ADDITIONAL TIME FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

You will be assigned to a dental student who is always supervised by a clinic instructor. Everything a student does must be evaluated and approved by a clinic instructor. It is a teaching and supervisory process that divides all the procedures performed by students into a series of steps. Your student is required to stop at certain points during these steps and call for an instructor check to evaluate and sometimes grade that particular step. Therefore, your appointment will likely take longer than in other dental settings.

REDUCED FEES

We set our dental student fees at approximately half of what a private dentist in this region would charge for the same procedure.

PERSONAL SATISFACTION

We hope you will experience the satisfaction of participating in the training of future dentists eager to serve the public.
