OVERVIEW

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry offers a Dental Postgraduate (formally known as Postdoctoral) Program in Restorative Dentistry starting July 1, of each year and ending June 30, of the following year.

Application deadline is February 1.

This program is designed to enhance both the breadth and depth of fundamental restorative principles and to correlate the oral sciences with clinical practice. Its major objective is the development of teachers and practitioners having broad knowledge in the biological sciences which are basic to debilitative oral disease processes and functional disturbances. Postgraduate students should have an aptitude and a desire to assume a role in the future of Restorative Dentistry training. The postgraduate students will enhance their basic knowledge in specific focus disciplines, obtain a working knowledge of scientific methodology as a foundation for evidence based practice, and if applicable participate in the teaching role under the mentorship of attending faculty.

The goals and objectives of this program are the emphasis on developing sound clinical judgment and skills based on evidence. The student’s study will enhance his/her ability to perform dental procedures, and the didactic courses will emphasize clinical decision making and treatment.

The Post graduate Program provides an option for a 9 month or 12 months course. In the 12-months course students are introduced to the latest dental digital technologies and advanced ceramics through didactic and hands-on-course. This provides a strong foundation on improving hand skills and clinical decision-making process.

Postgraduate students may also have the opportunity and should have the motivation and to be involved in research projects which should lead to publications at the end of the year. This will provide worldwide research recognition and the student will be awarded a Certificate.

It is coordinated through the Office of Academic Affairs and is awarded a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program.

Enrollment number: one (1) to five (5) postgraduate students will be accepted per year.
