Dental emergencies include but are not limited to:
-moderate to severe swelling of the face, neck, mouth
-tooth-related infection with fever
-dental abscess causing difficulty breathing or swallowing
-traumatic tooth or mouth injury/broken jaw
-bleeding from the mouth that will not stop with gauze pressure
If you are a patient of record at the School of Dentistry and you believe you are in need of emergency/urgent dental care:

During normal business hours 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, please contact your provider or the clinic to which your provider is assigned. Please reference the School of Dentistry clinic phone contact information here.

After normal business hours (on weekends or between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 am on weekdays), please call the University of Michigan Hospital Paging Service at 734-936-6267 and ask for the dentistry resident on call for the School of Dentistry. The hospital operator will share your information with the provider on call, and the doctor will call you back to discuss your situation.
