BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Afzal received his Doctor of Dental Surgery DDS from New York University College of Dentistry in 1992, with subsequent postgraduate training in Advanced Education General Dentistry at Columbia University, New York Presbyterian Medical Center (1996), General Practice Residency at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York (1997), Geriatric Medicine and Dentistry(Geriatric Dental Fellowship) at University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey (1999), Certificate Advance Graduate Study Prosthodontics from Boston University, Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts (2003), And Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Dental Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medical School, New York (2005). Dr. Afzal has experience spanning private practice, an academic faculty position, as well as leadership in both education and administration. Dr.Afzal joined the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry, in the Department of Biological and Material Sciences & Prosthodontics in 2022. Before joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Afzal was a consulting Maxillofacial Prosthodontist at King Fahad Medical City, where he was the Head of Hospital Dentistry. He later joined King Saud University Medical City, College of Dentistry, Department of Prosthodontics, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
