OverviewThe TMD & Orofacial Pain Clinic at The University of Michigan is dedicated to the management of various pain disorders of the jaw, mouth, face, head and neck. Board-certified orofacial pain specialists help manage a spectrum of needs including temporomandibular disorders, neuropathic pain disorders, neurovascular disorders, and sleep-disordered breathing disorders.In 2020, the American Dental Association recognized Orofacial Pain as one of the 12 dental specialties. The specialty of Orofacial Pain is dedicated to the evidence-based understanding of the underlying pathophysiology, etiology, prevention, and treatment of pain disorders of the jaw, mouth, face, head, and neck, and improving access to interdisciplinary patient care (AAOP). In 2023, the University of Michigan TMD & Orofacial Pain Residency was nationally accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The clinic is committed to furthering education and research within this specialty.
