Shaddox obtained her D.D.S., M.S. at University of Campinas, Brazil, and her Ph.D. at University of Florida, Gainesville, in 2004. She completed a post-doctorate in Oral Microbiology at University of Florida in 2005, became a full-time faculty member in the department of Periodontology in 2006, was tenured in 2012 and remained with the University of Florida until July 2018, when she joined University of Kentucky. Currently, Shaddox directs all research activities, actively participates in Periodontology courses and several college and national committees and has an intense clinical translational research program supported by NIH since 2009. Her main research focus is aimed at evaluating immunological, microbiological and genetic factors involved with localized aggressive periodontal disease in children and adolescents. She has over 60 publications, has been an ad-hoc member of several NIH study sections and is the recipient of several research student-mentored awards and personal awards, including the prestigious American Academy of Periodontology Teaching Award and the University of Florida Professorship Award. Image Marisa Roncati, RDH, DDS Assistant Professor, University of Bologna, Italy Marisa Roncati received a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Literature at Bologna University in 1981. In 1984 she received her certificate in Dental Hygiene from Forsyth School in Boston, MA, and is board-certified. From 1989 to 1992, she was one of two Italian Directors of International Dental Hygiene Federation (IDHF). In 2000, she received her DDS from the University of Ferrara, Italy. She teaches oral laser applications at the University of Parma and Rome University and oral surgery and pathology at the University of Parma. Dr Roncati has authored two textbooks published in English: Get Sharp: Nonsurgical Periodontal Instrument Sharpening (Quintessence, 2011) and Nonsurgical Periodontal Therapy: Indications, Limits, and Clinical Protocols with the Adjunctive Use of Diode Laser (Quintessence, 2017). Image Felipe Nor, DDS, MS, PhD Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Michigan School of Dentistry, USA Felipe Nor is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Nor earned his DDS degree and PhD in Oral Pathology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil. After working seven years as a dentist in private practice in Brazil, Dr. Nor joined the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where he completed the Masters in Oral Sciences program as well as the Certificate and Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Nor is a reviewer of several scientific journals in the field of dentistry, dental hygiene, and pathology, and serves as guest editor on a Special Research Topic at Frontiers in Oral Health. His primary research interests include the evaluation of markers for the diagnosis of salivary gland tumors and the therapeutic effect of small molecule inhibitors in pre-clinical models of head and neck cancer. Dr. Nor is an active member of the University of Michigan Oral and Maxillofacial Biopsy Service. Image Junying Li, DDS, MS, PhD Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Michigan School of Dentistry, USA Junying Li is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences & Prosthodontics, School of Dentistry, University of Michigan. He completed his Prosthodontics Residency training in 2015 at West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University in China. During 2017-2018, he worked at the Department of Periodontology and Oral Medicine, University of Michigan School of Dentistry as a Dentsply Sirona Implant Fellow. He received his Ph.D. degree in Dental Medicine from West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University in 2019. After graduating, he joined the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology and Oral Medicine as a Clinical Instructor. In 2021, Dr. Li joined the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences & Prosthodontics as a Clinical Assistant Professor. In addition to clinical practice and teaching activity, Dr. Li has been focusing on research of digital dentistry, especially on topics related to the computer-assisted implant surgery, virtual patient, and virtual articulator. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles on top dental implant and prosthodontics journals.
