OverviewOne of the few regenerative dentistry programs in the world - the first in the United States - our unique 12-month postgraduate program offers a solid background in biomaterials and tissue engineering applied to dental, oral, and craniofacial tissue regeneration. The program leads to a Certificate in Regenerative Dentistry and is designed for graduates (dental, medical, among others) with strong academic motivation. Participants will also be given the opportunity to gain clinical knowledge. The application deadlines are July 1 (for a September start date) or October 1 (for January start date). Upon successful completion of the Regenerative Dentistry program, students will be well-positioned to seek further clinical education (dental specialties) or PhD training.Regenerative dentistry is an interdisciplinary field, which aims to repair or regenerate damaged tissues using biomaterials and cell technologies. This unique program is designed to offer a solid background in biomaterials and tissue engineering applied to dental, oral, and craniofacial tissue regeneration.As a multi-disciplinary program, the Regenerative Dentistry Postgraduate training is appropriate for a wide range of students. Graduates with doctoral and/or bachelor degrees in biological (e.g., dentistry, pharmacy, medicine, veterinary medicine, etc.) or physical sciences (engineering related areas) are encouraged to apply. Students enrolled in the program will receive in-depth didactic and research training on the principles of tissue engineering and its applications in regenerative dentistry. Moreover, students will also be given the opportunity to observe affiliated residents/faculty within the disciplines of endodontics and restorative dentistry. A full year research project, on a topic identified in conjunction with the Program Director will grant hands-on experience. The project will be assessed by an oral presentation at an end of year symposium, overall research performance, and by submission of a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. You will also be encouraged to present your work at local (School of Dentistry Research Day) and national (American Association for Dental Research) meetings.Core courses will provide solid knowledge in stem cell and molecular biology, organogenesis, fundamental principles of biomaterials, tissue engineering and biostatistics. A key differential of this program is the 1-year continuous research immersion, which will strengthen your ability to analyze and interpret data and summarize your findings in the form of written reports and an oral presentation. Upon successful completion of the Dental Postgraduate Program in Regenerative Dentistry, students will be well positioned to seek further clinical education (dental specialties) or PhD training.
