Technology Purpose
HTML5 is the markup language used to structure this site.
Structure & some Semantics
CSS3 is used to style this site
JavaScript was used to add interactivity to this site
jQuery (a library of JavaScript) is also used to add interactivity.
Drupal 7 is the content management system/framework (using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL) upon which this site is built.
Content Management Framework
Twitter's Bootstrap HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery framework provides the backbone for the design.
Layout & Design Engine
Stanford University's "Open Framework" Drupal theme is built on Twitter Bootstrap and provides the base theme for this site's custom Drupal theme.

In September of 2013, the first release of our new design was published. The templates of this design implemented many of the University of Michigan recommended standards for web accessibility ( Our target for full compliance with WCAG 2.0 ( is November 1, 2014.
