On April 1, 2016 the School of Dentistry celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2016 in the third annual Pathways Day. The event took place in the Kellogg Auditorium and Sindecuse Museum Atrium. The D4 class members presented their projects in a variety of formats—oral, poster and table clinic—to students from all of the other dental and dental hygiene classes, faculty, and executive directors of several local district dental societies.
Dr. Tracy de Peralta, Pathways program director, opened the program with an introduction describing her career pathway and how it determined where she is today.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Lily Garcia, Associate Dean of Education at the University of Iowa School of Dentistry and the immediate past chair of the Board of Directors for ADEA, discussed various pathways an individual can take to achieve their goals. Derek Robison, a D4 dental student, discussed his atypical journey to dentistry after a first career in the automotive industry. Dean Laurie McCauley said a few words and introduced several special guests.
Five oral presentations preceded the poster sessions and table clinics. The program ended at 5:00 pm, however, many stayed later to discuss their projects and their overall pathways experiences. By all accounts, the third annual Pathways Day was highly successful and applauded by students, faculty and special guests.
