Spit Test to ID Oral Cancer?

Ann Arbor, MI — January 7, 2013 — One day in the future your dentist may ask you to take a spit test before he or she begins their examination of your oral cavity.  Why?  To determine if you might have oral cancer. 

Dr. Joseph Helman, chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hospital Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, is collaborating with others to see if a patient’s saliva sample offers important clues in detecting the sixth most common cancer.  Read more...
