Recent Publications


Dr. Johnson joined the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in the summer of 2002.  She came from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where she was an Associate Professor and also served as Director of the Educational Methodology and Instructional Technology.    Dr. Johnson is manuscript reviewer for Journal of the American Dental Association and the Journal of Dental Education. She is the primary author of the educational software standards for the Working Group 5 (Dental Education and Research Systems) of the Task Force on Dental Informatics of the Accredited Standards Committee Medical Devices 156, which is sponsored by the American Dental Association. She is a member of numerous dental associations and has served as an officer in the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental Education. Dr. Johnson currently serves as a charter member of the iTunes U Advisory Board for Apple Computer, Inc.

Research Interests

Dr. Johnson is actively involved in the design, production and evaluation of innovative and effective methods of communication and education.  She has also conducted research in the creation, storage and retrieval of digital images. She has served as a consultant for non-profit institutions developing computer-based simulations for the assessment of dental students and practitioners.  Dr. Johnson's current research includes developing and evaluating new strategies for delivering media effectively and efficiency to students including podcasting, interactive patient simulations; evaluating digital asset management systems; developing and evaluating educational World Wide Web products for dental students and practitioners; and researching a force-feedback dental surgical simulator.
