Dr. Kristine S. West is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 1988. After graduation she moved to Chicago where she attended Northwestern University Dental School, graduating first in her class. During dental school Dr. West was honored to receive the Alpha Omega Scholar Award, the Dr. William S. Kramer Award of Excellence and the Delta Sigma Delta Achievement Award. She then went on to complete her orthodontic specialty training and Masters in Science degree in Orthodontics at the University of Michigan Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. Her published masters thesis focused on long-term facial growth into adulthood.

Immediately upon graduation from the orthodontic residency in 1995, Dr. West was invited to join the faculty at the University of Michigan and has been a part-time educator ever since, where her Ortho 770 course focus is the development of the occlusion and interceptive orthodontics. Also after graduation she spent 10 years as a partner in the elite orthodontic practice of Dr. James McNamara where she continued to refine her knowledge of early orthodontic treatment.

Dr. West has lived and practiced orthodontics in the Lansing, Michigan area since 1999. In 2012 Dr. West sold her private practice and focused her energy on her 2 children who were pre-teens at the time. In addition to spending more time with her children and her husband after the sale of her practice, it was during this period that Dr. West became involved in competitive ballroom dance and she now competes as an amateur in different competitions around the country.

In January 2017, Dr. West opened a new private orthodontic practice in the Lansing suburb of DeWitt. She plans to use the experience of starting a new solo practice from the ground up as an educational tool to help guide students who wish to open their own practices after graduation.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. West is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists. Dr. West also maintains memberships with the Society of Orthodontic Educators, American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Michigan Association of Orthodontists and the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists.
