Dr. Yamashita is a dentist-scientist, who enjoys both the clinical and research aspects of his profession. He earned his DDS degree in 1991 from Hokkaido University, and received his certificate in Prosthodontics (1993) and his Ph.D. in Dental Science (1997) from Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan. He also completed his Periodontic training at the University of Michigan. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and the Japanese Board of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Yamashita’s research background is bone biology and biomechanics. His current research focuses on apoptosis of bone cells and its impact on bone formation. The long-term goal of his research is to discover a way to prevent bone resorption and enhance bone formation.
Dr. Yamashita joined the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences, Division of Prosthodontics, in 2005. In addition to his research, he is involved with junior faculty research mentoring and teaching.
